Artist Bio-Christy Grace Wells
A native of Pennsylvania, I have grown up participating in art-making of all kinds. I have observed traditional folk arts and crafts and have tried my hand at everything from wood sculpture, to food art, to quilting, drawing, painting, needlework, and more. From my parents I learned to be self-taught and self-motivating and have consequently had very little formal art education or training. Instead I learned to watch and learn (or read and imagine!), then try and do. Early in life I learned that art takes time, practice, and patience. I also learned to mentally disassemble and reassemble projects and processes in my mind, including those I was working on at the time. Whenever I try my hand at something new I constantly analyze what went right (the way I wanted it to go) and what turned out different from my expectations and vision. From there I can decide what I need to change, and I begin anew. It is a process that I love to share with others. For I find that far too many stop too soon and tell themselves that they're just not good at art, when in reality they simply haven't persued it far enough. As I have taught myself to draw and paint I have been amazed at how 'wrong' a drawing or painting can look in the early and sometimes even into the advanced stages. I have concluded that the difference between an amature and an artist is patience and persistance, with a little bit of vision mixed in- the latter being something that I've also noticed many people do not give themselves permission to have. So, I invite you to explore my site and see a little bit of my vision and to give yourself permission to dream. And, if you are in the State College, PA area I invite you to consider signing up for one of my classes. I have helped many students to discover talents they never knew they had and find a great deal of joy in doing so.
Having said all of that I will share a little with you about my art. I am a realist. I like creating art that is as close to flawless as I can make it. I like the beautiful, graceful, flowing lines of ballerinas, the innocense of babies, and the power and peacefulness of nature. I have also developed a deep love for the women of the scriptures and have embarked on a long term mission to paint many, if not all of the stories that seem to go unnoticed, but which, nevertheless, have made a great impact on history and mankind, particularly because of the roll that these great women have played in them. Please return often to see the progress of this project and feel free to leave me comments or questions.
I remain humbly yours,
Christy Grace Wells
